The Tivoli

$395.00

The Tivoli, from the Victorian Western Collection, is a western flared brimmed with a tall pinched crown. The brim is pointed down in the front and back with turned up sides, much like the top hat, but with western exaggeration. The Crown is 4” in front, and 5” on the side. Made from a velour or regular finished fur felt- depending on the color. The trim is made from woven horse or mule hair of the highest quality. I always choose the right match for the hat. Choose your COLOR on Checkout.

All hats are handmade to order so will take from 2 - 3 weeks to make (3 if a color is out of stock) , if you need your hat more urgently please contact us before purchasing. Each hat is packed in tissue in a box, inside shipping box.  Please email me with questions.

THE STORY OF THE TIVOLI PIE
Bowlers were once very popular during the “Wild West”. Everywhere on the east coast the bowler was ever-present. Because of visiting tourists who wore Bowlers, and those who relocated out west,  the locals took notice.  The bowler began to be worn on western heads. Law enforcement, sheriffs and the like wore them proud.  Lucius Beebe called the bowler “the hat that won the west”.  It had become the favorite hat of cowboys and train workers due to its practicality.  It tended to stay on the head in a strong wind or if one stuck his head out the window of a railroad car that was racing like the wind.

The Tivoli was once a bowler.  In my imagination, some sheriff from out east, like Bat Masterson, wore his Bowler and at some point as it grew worn with age, ride and love, he turned that hat into a western bowler, pulling it down in the front for more coverage, and eventually pinching the hat from picking it up after a dusty shoot out.
