Madonna wearing Black Panama Hat with Polka-dots by Marine & Deerfield

It came as a beautiful surprise to me to find out that Madonna’s Stylist had chosen some hats from East Village Hats where my hats are on sale. I didn’t know about it at the time, but some time later, Julia Knox, milliner and owner of East Village Hats, told me my hat was chosen by Madonna to keep and to wear on an upcoming magazine spread.

As the Days unfolded from that little bit of information, which on it’s own was amazing, I found out through other sources and being tagged, that indeed, Madonna was wearing my hat (her hat), in an interview in Rolling Stones Magazine, and was featured on the Cover of the Magazine.

Then yesterday I found out that the footage from the shoot was being used for her new Music Video (see below).

Since the beginning of her career Madonna has had a huge impact on the world through her music, attitude, clothing and lifestyle. She is probably one of the most influential female artists ever. Her legacy goes beyond music, because her success and contributions helped pave the way for other female artists. Her bold music videos and world tours changed the music scene for women. So many artists “borrowed” from her creations. Camille Paglia called her a “major historical figure”.

I guess I’m drawn to her because of her polarizing character. She pushes buttons. She takes no crap. She does what she wants. She doesn’t care what you think. At least she doesn’t show it. Women are damned and criticized for their strengths and power. This is a time for women to celebrate our unique voices no matter how different, or how much it pushes our buttons.

All of these reasons and more, are why this is such an honor.

ps… only the hat with the polka-dots is a Marine & Deerfield.
