The Tivoli Pie, from the Victorian Western Collection, is a short-brimmed hat with a porkpie crown. The brim is pointed down in the front and back with turned-up sides. The Crown is telescoped down to 3”. Made from a peach velour finished fur felt, has a lovely woven horse band.
THE STORY OF THE TIVOLI PIE Porkpies have a long history, and a variation of it started out being worn by women during the Civil War. They moved their way to England, and back. Many notable owners from silent picture fame and jazz musicians continued the trend. Today they are still very popular with musicians.
In my imagination, a few of them made their way out West. And eventually, it became closer to a stingy-brimmed gambler… with sweeping sides. Close to the Ben Wade’s hat in 3:10 To Yuma, but with shorter brims, and a shorter crown.
